Blaze v2

MAZEX 1.0 champion, an earlier generation of the Micromouse Autonomous Maze Solver.

Overview

The previous generation: a custom STM32-based mouse with real-time flood-fill maze solving and MATLAB-tuned PID control on a custom 4-layer PCB ("BLAZE v2.0"). Won 1st place at MAZEX 1.0 (IEEE RAS & IEEE WIE, University of Moratuwa, 2026), and reached the finals of Micromaze 3.0 and SLIIT RoboFest 2026.

Key Features

  • 01Real-time maze mapping during exploration runs, updated wall-by-wall as the mouse moves
  • 02Flood-fill algorithm for continuously recomputing the shortest verified path to the goal
  • 03Motion profiling for smooth acceleration/deceleration through straights and turns
  • 04PID motor control with feedback and feedforward terms tuned via MATLAB system modeling
  • 05Custom-designed control PCB ("BLAZE v2.0") integrating the STM32, motor drivers and sensor interfacing on a maze-scale footprint
  • 061st place at MAZEX 1.0 — Micromouse Competition organized by IEEE RAS & IEEE WIE, University of Moratuwa (2026)
  • 07Finalists at Micromaze 3.0, IIT Micromaze Competition (2026), competing in both the qualifying and final rounds
  • 08Qualified into the finals of SLIIT RoboFest 2026, University Category, with the final round piloted by the newer Chia v4
